I am currently back to using my Samsung Galaxy S4 after recently discovering that the HTC One M8 camera lens has become scratched or distorted. It seems that the problem is affecting all the phones released in several different versions around various regions.
I discovered by time that my pictures became blurry/foggy and out of focus. At first i thought it was moist or temperature difference causing it but i noticed that the lens looked dirty. I tried cleaning the lens with a lens cloth, but soon noticed that it did not help. I tried searching for similar problems on the web but found no content describing my issue.
Norway has got pretty good return policy and warranty so i decided to return my phone as this was not acceptable. This was a couple of weeks after i first noticed the issue so i decided to search on the web one more time to see if anything showed up now, and sure enough suddenly this was something many people was struggling with. You can read about the problems here.
I am pretty carefully with my device and i do not keep sharp objects in the same pocket as my phone. The scratches seems to have appeared out of nothing over a period of 1 month. I am not 100% sure if it is scratches or some kind of chemical reaction, adhesive seperation, poor materials or what not.
I have been very satisfied with my One M8 up until now, the camera is (was) great, it is fast, the build quality and design is very good and it feels good in the hand. Compared to my Galaxy S4 i was much more satisfied with the HTC. The UI seems more polished and intuitive and does not have all the "bloatware" Samsung pre-installs on their devices effectively slowing it down.It is really a shame that HTC´s high end phone has this problem. I really hope that it is not to big of a problem and that they sort it out relatively fast. I will monitor the problem and keep you posted with a conclusion, if we ever get one.
