Here is Skybells answer to my findings:
You have probably seen my post regarding the Skybell V2 and that the new smart doorbells in general are not on my side. I am going to give you a chance to win this really bad product all for free.
I want startups to succeed but i have lost all hope with Skybell. My first doorbell had a couple of issues which we all know manufacturers can have. A major difference between Skybell and Ring is their attitude towards costumers. Here is why i am not happy at all:
I initially had a problem with the bell activating the inside chimer for several seconds. Skybell's solution was that i needed to buy a new transformer although the one i had was within the specified spec. Here is Skybell's support answer below:
I live in a new house, my original doorbell has worked flawlessly. I still followed their device and bought a new doorbell transformer with a slightly higher voltage than the one i have. price 500 Norwegian kroner. The only difference was that the chimer was chiming away just as before only a lot louder....
Here is Skybells answer to my findings:
Doorbell button not working
At this stage i was already fed up with the bell, it was not working properly so i decided to open it up for inspection. I wanted to prepare my self for the answer Skybell was going to give me, with warranty or not. I found out that the button was not working because the small membrane on the push button had fallen off. I sent a new e-mail to Skybell and i was told to send it back for exchange on my own cost. Price 470 Norwegian kroner. As you can see from the e-mail they are more interested in covering them selfs and putting the responsibility over on customers rather than assuring you that they will fix the problem.
Return or exchange?
With the trouble i had i wanted to get my money back rather than an exchange unit. I stated so on the return papers as they had openings for actually getting a refund rather than exchange. After i sent the unit back i never heard anything from them. After one month i asked them about the status and i was then told that my refund request was not accpeted because i had to return it within 30 days of original purchase.
I am not sure if any of you remember but the device was delivered to me four months after purchase, so how was i going to be able to return it within 30 days? I returned the device to Skybell well within 30 days of arrival in my possession. I reminded them of this and got the following reply:
My request for a refund got denied again and Skybell sent me a new unit...
Turns out that Skybell only replaces the doorbells with refurbished ones. the refurbished one i received however was in a poorer shape esthetically than the one i sent off. It may not be very visible on the crappy pictures but the scratch on the front is very dominant.
I confronted them with this and here was the reply:
I do not want anybody to spend money on a product like this especially not waste their time on costumer support like this. So here is your chance to win it. Share the link for this blog post to as many as possible and leave a comment below. I will donate the doorbell to a random commenter.
I have been contacted by one of the Co-founders of Skybell. They recently found out about my case and decided to refund everything i have spent on the product. They even offered me a new one. I was told that they felt really bad about my experience and could ensure me that they were taking measures to ensure proper costumer support in the future. They are now in the prosess of moving the complete support team in house to be able to manage it better. I am glad someone cared and to be honest that is all i wanted from the very beginning. Tech startups today is not easy, especially with a world so small as it is now. Product reviews posted online has a big effect and spreads very quickly. Just because i was lucky enough to get a refund does not mean that the product automatically is a good one. But looking back on the case and comparing it to the Ring doorbell i actually had more problems with the Ring, the only difference was the support side of it. I really hope their changes make a difference. Do you have an experience about this pr0duct? Do not hesitate to share your experience in the comment field below.
